For me. Its use case. I wear cheep Jlabs outside. When working in the backyard or running errands. They arent noise canceling, rather poor sound quality. But i listen to audio books. For my home audio. Im not interested in playing bluetooth off of my phone, thats for the jlabs. So i sacrifice features for better sound. For my computer, i play games muted, while i listen to playthrough, tutorials, or listen to edm. So great vocal range 200-600hz as clear as possible, a very warm sound. For gaming, i have a dedicate usb mic that i use and can mute with a macro on my mouse and i dont vahe a seperate headphone for gaming. So rather than one do all like the Audeze Mobius gaming headset. Id rather have individual sound systems that do each task better.

Bose's modern DSP is amazing as well as their waveguides and phaseguides.

Unless you’re always listening to music hardwired, does it really matter that much? I’d rather have a great interface on a music app that’s easy to use, you can play the app on many devices, and the catalog is huge. I think any of these services would be great.

I don't HATE Bose. As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for their insane advertising I may not have ever learned the lessons I did so early in my audio obsession. My first 'real sic" speakers were 901 series 3. I loved them until I didn't, lesson learned.

The demands for current and voltage for headphones can be misleading. If you see a headphone that has a really high sensitivity rating, but a lower impedance like most planar headphones, you’d think they are so easy to drive. Sure. You’ll get the volume loudness level no problem, but by quality power standards? No. Key and very evident characteristics of a headphone being underpowered is bloated, distortion in the bass and excessive sibilance in the vocals. Those are dead giveaways that one needs to match the amplification better for the sensitivity rating and current+voltage output. A good example is the FiiO FT5 and the moon drop Para. Weirdly, these headphones demand pretty substantial amplification 5X their price. 😮

buy a real amplifier with output transformers and there's no worries about power. Also, to gain +3dB of volume you need to double the power to achieve it.

Speaking of using speaker amps: Do you need something between a speaker amp and a headphone like a resistor box and if so why? Is it safe to go straight to the speaker taps?

Joe misstated voltage vs power. Power increases by the square of voltage, for example every doubling of voltage, power is 4 times (Power =Voltage (squared)/Impedance). The gist of it is the same, increase in speaker impedance requires increased voltage in order to draw an equal amount of power.

I’ve had the go blu for the last year. For what it is, there isn’t much else like it in the market. It blows the FiiO BTRI5 out of the park imho. I actually prefer the go blu over the BTR7 too. Just my two cents. Great review guys. The go blu pairs very well with my Senny HD490 Pros and my HD600 too. Cheers. 🍻

I have the iFi Go Blu and I only use it wired because with anything Bluetooth you lose detail and resolution and Bluetooth not matter which version doesn't have the best clarity but wired the iFi Go Blu sounds good with my low impedance and high sensitivity budget headphones, I would love to purchase one of your headphones but they're a bit too steep in $ and way over my price range.

Should note you'll need a 4.4 mm headphone cable connector to connect to GO blu for maximum output power.

From what I've noticed is that high-ish end audiophile headphones, while overkill usually provide the best surround sound simulation. I've had good experiences with with a audio techica ATH w-5000 (if you can get past the shape and eventual ear pain caused by the cover for the driver rubbing on the inside of your ear), either-CX and even something like the monolith m1060's modded with the foam removed in the back were all excellent, planars do seem to have an advantage though in general but good quality, fast responsive dynamic drivers can work well also. Still need to hear some electrostatic headphones, in theory they should provide the best imaging and depth perception at the cost of bass.... Assuming the audio in the game is good, of course.
